How to Create Your Defining Moment

How to Create Your Defining Moment The other day I was digging  through some old  pics for my job search training presentations when  I came across this oldie but goodie of my MBA graduation day 5 years ago. It brought back sooooooooo many memories and also a huge feeling of gratitude for getting through what was a really tough period in my life and making it to where I am today. This picture actually sums up a defining moment in my life: the one that ultimately started the inspiration that would lead me to what I do today, training people in how to conquer the job search. They say a picture is worth a thousand words but it feels like so much more when I think back to the day this was snapped. The Truth About That Day You see, I look really happy in this photo, right?  The reality was that deep down inside I was freaking out.  I wasnt happy at all. I was bubbling with emotion from the temporary excitement of achieving my degree but also the absolute fear of not having a job and waking up the next day to the realities of rent bills, looming student loans, a major dose of humility and months of discouragement ahead (unbeknownst to me at that time) The days and months that would follow my  joyous graduation day, were terrifying.  Its a horrible feeling to not have a job after you graduate, and if youve ever been there, I dont have to tell you twice. The Fruits of My Struggle Fast forward to today. I can look back and embrace this rough spell in my career and life because it truly taught me about what its like to be in the job search and what so many of my clients are going through aside from just the standard resume confusion. The job search is a huge emotional struggle. Its a time where my clients need a shoulder to lean on and a big dose of positive reinforcement and in being this for them, I truly find career fulfillment. In fact, I just started working with someone who has been in the search for 6 months. She reminds me of how I felt back then. Shes ambitious, bright, a total catch for any company yet she is struggling to make the traction or apply the right tactics.  She doesnt know what she doesnt know about the job search (which btw is consistent across the  majority of job seekers I encounter) Yesterday we had our first meeting and afterwards, she sent me this note that really took the wind out of me: Thanks so much Noelle! This helps a lot. I only wish we met earlier in my job search! This is what I do and this is why I get out of bed every morning in terms of professional fulfillment Does Any of This Resonate With You? This is what I want to do for you if you are feeling like you need some kind of support finding joy in your everyday. My mission is not about just being a career coach and the short-term strategy of landing a job.  Its about so much more. Its about finding your passion and fulfillment because I know what it feels like, to be otherwise. Over the next couple months, you might notice some changes on my website. Ive added a new page specifically for DIY career development courses that you can receive at a lower price (since not everyone can afford career coaching). Speaking of DIY career and job search you can also find a new page that Im populating with tools I love. Whenever I present to groups, Im always asked about my top picks for simplifying the job search so thats what I want to start creating with this page. Ive also bundled together a few new resume and coaching packages that address very specific needs at every stage of the career job search. Stay tuned as I continue to evolve in my goal to really get to the heart of what I hear so many of you asking for! Create Your Defining Moment Do you know your defining moment? More importantly, are you doing what you were born to do? Take a 10-minute mental break. Close your eyes and ask yourself: What am I passionate about and am I doing that every day? You could also start by learning about your lifes purpose here. If youre having trouble figuring out your path, you might want to consider a more in-depth type of assessment to figure this out. This is part of what my team offers btw. Dont waste any more time fumbling or worse yet, traveling further down a path that doesnt fulfill you. If you know exactly where you want to go but are having trouble getting there, make now your time to shine. Start to put the pieces in place so you can make today your defining moment and reach your goal sooner rather than later. We can help with that too.

Mistakes to Avoid in Negotiating Your New Job Offer

Errors to Avoid in Negotiating Your New Job Offer Very nearly 10 years prior, specialists Dr. Michelle Marks, George Mason University, and Dr. Precious stone M. Harold, Temple University, asked 149 recently recruited representatives whether they decided to arrange their beginning salaries*. They found that the individuals who arranged, expanded their beginning pay rates by a normal of $5,000. Odds are likely that their examination is similarly as pertinent today. We should discuss why you ought to arrange your next bid for employment and how to do it. What models would it be a good idea for you to use to assess a bid for employment? How might you decide if a proposition for employment is a decent one? The engaging quality of a proposition for employment is an exceptionally close to home thing dependent on the people's needs at that point. It is key that each activity searcher realize their necessities a long time before experiencing the meeting procedure and getting the offer. Expecting we are centered around the dollars in the bid for employment, separate the proposal before responding to it: Rundown the pay. Figure the reward if there is one. Secure the subtleties of the wellbeing inclusion. Re-read the set of working responsibilities to remind yourself about the activity obligations. Consider the delicate components like length of drive, new aptitudes you will learn, and the nature of the individuals you will work with. Research compensation data that is accessible on the web. Glassdoor.com's pay rates and remuneration segment and Payscale.com are top areas. Would it be a good idea for you to haggle with potential managers for better pay? Do you risk losing a proposition for employment on the off chance that you attempt? In 30 years arranging my own offers, I have never had an offer canceled because of an arrangement. Be that as it may, if an up-and-comer is inconsiderate, excessively requesting, or ill bred in any capacity, the organization can cancel the offer. In rundown, truly, I suggest everyone arrange. Keep in mind, In the event that you don't ask, you'll never know. What systems can you â€" an imminent worker â€" use to arrange a superior proposition for employment? Most significant is to start your arrangements appreciative for the offer, exceptionally conscious, and proficient, not passionate. Attempt to haggle with your employing chief instead of a selection representative or other mediator. The recruiting supervisor has the financial plan and is a definitive leader. Also, they as of now need you in their group, so they are spurred to guarantee you are fulfilled. Work your exchange out in a letter and email it preceding talking about it with the employing supervisor. That way you can plot your solicitation and avocation and they can advance it to other leaders. In the letter, keep it brief. Separate each solicitation you have, give an objective to an agreeable arrangement and give the support to the solicitation. Whatever realities you can give the better. For instance: Your Request: Your Rationale: Solicitation #1: Increase compensation by 8% My earlier pay was at this level. Solicitation #2: 5 more get-away days Pre-submitted family get-away What slip-ups do planned representatives frequently make when attempting to arrange compensation and advantages? Being impolite, ill bred, sounding entitled. Saying ,I did my examination, and this is underneath advertise. Being whiny or utilize elevated proclamations like, This isn't sufficient, or It's not what I anticipated. Saying, It's not as much as what I was gaining in my last employment, when the last occupation was not the equivalent, comparative, or had less obligations. Not all employments are the equivalent and it's anything but a prerequisite that the recruiting organization coordinate or surpass what you were procuring. On the off chance that stock is a piece of your all out pay, saying, Great, you can't ensure that the stock won't go up, or Stock doesn't take care of my tabs. This shows you are not in it for the long stretch and not mindful that your commitment can support the stock cost, as well. In the event that you are another college alum or don't have a lot of work understanding and need to order a superior remuneration bundle, here are my proposals. Be sensible! Since you don't have work understanding, the organization is facing a higher challenge. Also, you should be happy to begin at a suitable level and stir your way up. Request an early survey, as opposed to hanging tight for a yearly audit to exhibit your endeavors and their outcomes. In the event that you believe you would be acceptable in deals, at that point search for a business position with commission on a base pay. In that job, the upside can be colossal and legitimately connected to your capacity to close arrangements. Do your exploration on showcase pay rates in your city at your objective organizations. Go to Glassdoor.com or Payscale.com. Recall your greatest slip-up in remuneration arrangement isn't doing it. * Marks, M. also, Harold, C. (2011), Who asks and who gets in compensation arrangement.
